BORDER CROSSINGS

As of January 1, 2008 the United States will be requiring passports to re-enter the country.  We recommend applying for your passport ASAP due to an estimated 12 week processing time.

Upon re-entering the USA, a passport, OR birth certificate, and a government issued ID is required until June 2008.

Mexican customs allows only $50 of new merchandise per person to enter the country duty-free (this does not include your personal clothing, sleeping bags, etc.) If you have an excess of this merchandise amount, you are to enter the border through the lanes marked "Declaration". The other lanes are clearly marked "Nothing to Declare". You may be required to pay a duty on your merchandise.

DIRECTIONS (detailed maps can be found in the 2008 Missions Guide)

From the Otay Mesa Border Crossing:

Take Interstate 5 South to Highway 905 East, Highway 905 enters Mexico at the Otay Mesa Border. After crossing the border, stay in the left hand lane and turn left at the first stop light. (Ave. Industrial).

Stay on this road, you will follow signs to Tecate, this will put you on the Autopista, a toll road ($6.00) per vehicle (the cost is higher for motor homes and trailers). After going through the toll booth you will drive approximately 6 1/2 miles and after going under 2 overpasses you will see a group of large buildings with red tile roofs on the right side of the road. Ranch De Sus Niños is written on a large sign on the side of one of the buildings.

Continue past the orphanage. You will come to a sign reading TECATE LIBRE, exit there. This will take you up onto an overpass. IMMEDIATELY exit right. You want to be on the opposite side of the freeway, going back the way you came. You will drive under another overpass. When you come to the second overpass, EXIT. Drive over the overpass onto a dirt road. Go past a small store. Then at the first opportunity, (that is not someone’s dive way) turn left. Then make the next right. Then another left. Remember, do not turn into the entrance of the parking area. One more left, and the orphanage will be on your right. Turn right into the entrance of the parking area. Please park there and walk to the large school building where the offices are located.

From the Tecate Border Crossing:

Take Interstate 5 South to Highway 94 East. Turn Right when you see the sign saying Tecate, this is Hwy 181. This will take you to the Tecate border.

After you cross the border take the first Left (Revolucion). Then at the first stop sign take a Right. Continue on this road until you see the exit sign for Tijuana CUOTA. You will take this exit off to the right. You will continue on the highway for a couple miles. You will see a group of large buildings with red tile roofs on the left side of the road. Ranch De Sus Niños is written on a large sign on the side of one of the buildings. Continue pass the orphanage until you reach the second overpass bridge.

When you come to the second overpass, EXIT. Drive over the overpass onto a dirt road. Go past a small store. Then at the first opportunity, (that is not someone’s drive way) turn left. Then make the next right. Then another left. Remember, do not turn into the entrance of the parking area. One more left, and the orphanage will be on your right. Turn right into the entrance of the parking area. Please park there and walk to the large school building where the offices are located.
